type.type.type.
I've been eyeballing typewriters for a little over a month and this past weekend I was lucky enough to stumble upon this lovely lady.
She is an Olympia SM3 from the 50's. As far as I can tell she is in perfect working order and I am pleased as punch. The ribbon is a bit dry and works a little but I order some new ones from ebay which should be here soon.
I never thought I would be someone into vintage or antique things but as I get older I appreciate them much more.
Do you collect or look for vintage items? Where do you go? I don't know about the entire state of Florida but I have a hard time finding good places to go looking for things in the Tampabay area.

Sewing Saturday
TMQG had its February meeting over the weekend and I got some first hand lessons on paper piecing. I made a lot of mistakes but I think once you wrap your head around the process it gets much easier.
I went with a black and pink color scheme mostly because I just love pink but also because I'm still not comfortable putting colors together that are out of my comfort range. I'm getting there, it just takes time.
Elizabeth's blocks turned out super fun and colorful. It was nice to be able to actually have someone teach you techniques because sometimes youtube just doesn't cut it.
Bree decided to work on her scrappy trip along which was fun to see too since I had only really seen it on instagram over the past few weeks.

Christmas 2012
Seriously, Instagram makes me so lazy. My poor camera is pretty much neglected for the ever so convenient iPhone. Seems fine at the time but when I look at them online I realize how crappy those photos are in comparison.
I finally got a walking foot and it really makes a huge difference. I found this partially started pouch in a box and finally finished it off.
Then I moved along to this quilted pillow for Becky. Still not perfect but I think I'm getting better with piecing and getting things lined up. The straight line quilting was my favorite part.
I didn't get to do as much baking as I would have liked this year.
But the stuff I made was delicious :)
And like every year the nutcrackers made their appearance.
I actually had a few days off which was nice. I got caught up with Downton Abbey.
Lots of puppy snuggles from the brat.
Quite a bit of sewing.
And as they say all things must come to an end.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!!!!

Not your Grandma's quilting
I am falling in love with modern quilting.
If you would have asked me about quilting years ago I would have told you it wasn't my thing. The image I had in my mind of quilters were grandmas making traditional blankets in dull colors and a mishmash fabrics that didn't appeal to me. I was young and dumb what can I say?
Modern quilting.... what a whole new world this is. So many bright fun colors, modern prints, and geometric designs. At times I don't even know where to begin but most recently I had the opportunity to learn a few things from Elizabeth, over at dontcallmebetsy.com She is super sweet and has a great blog if you're even remotely interested in modern quilting.
This here is my sorta finished piece. I messed up along the way and it is far from perfect but I am so happy with it. I will probably turn it into a pillow but for now I just like to stare at it.
So stoked! Thank you so much Elizabeth for all your help.
You can find a Modern Quilt Guild to join in your area.
If you're in the Tampabay area come join in on our fun.

POW WOW quilting
My adventure in quilting has officially begun. After hoarding the fabrics I had choose for weeks I finally took the big leap and started cutting. Lucky for me I had some help Elizabeth from dontcallmebetsy was kind enough to give me some guidance and I managed to do pretty well. I would love to say everything went smoothly after that but in fact it didn't. I managed to cut up the fabric in the bottom right incorrectly. Not once, twice, but in fact 3 times! How is this even possible?! I will have to go out and snag some more fabric soon because I destroyed the half yard I bought.
I still have so much to cut but I stopped after the disaster last night. I think I might wait until I stock up on some supplies to continue. I need more fabric obviously but I also need a larger mat and a new iron.
Never fear I am NOT giving up. This entire process with all the bumps I have hit along the way has been enjoyable. I really do love working with fabrics and all the details involved really help with my sanity after spending all day at work.
Oh DUH, if you're interested in the pattern I am working on you can find it HERE! I wanted to choose a pattern that wasn't too girly since I will be giving this to my dad when it's complete. I will also be using a grey fabric in the "white" space. Can't wait to finish and show it off.
