Seems like the only thing liking this weather is the garden. I planted 2 actual plants of eggplants and they have been sprouting like you wouldn't believe. I grabbed six off this morning that were ready and there are still some that are growing. It really is quite amazing especially since there was a time not too long ago that the plants were practically dead.
I also picked this jalapeño that I left too long and let turn red. I think it sort of looks like a strawberry. Well, maybe if you squint at it, and pretend there are black seeds, blink a few times and turn around.
I don't have a problem with eating healthy foods, I have a problem not eating unhealthy foods.
I have been feeling like crap lately and the past few days have been pretty bad. I'm not really sure what the problem is but I can't rule out all the garbage I have been cramming into my body. This morning I started drinking fruit/vegetable smoothies to try to rebalance my body.
Anyone have any healthy eating/living tips to share?
I am Peach obsessed at the moment. I have been scarfing down peach italian ice from Rita's for the past few days and it inspired me to make some peach preserves. This was my first time so I didn't take any photos during the process. I was too busy making sure water was boiling, jars were sanitized, etc. Taste wise, the stuff tastes like perfection. I have no idea if the stuff will set correctly to become the correct consistency. If it doesn't I'll just pour the "sauce" over ice-cream and whatever else I can find.
Has anyone ever made jam, jelly, or preserves? Do you have any tips?
I've seriously become obsessed with nail polish, Essie to be exact. I know some people that don't like it but I love it. I am a little weird when it comes to my nails and I can't stand multiple coats. The Essie works well for me with one coat and if I really have to a double coat is not too thick. This was today's haul. I can't wait to use them all!!!
Nothing reminds you of home like food does. Since there really aren't any local spots that serve up the stuff we grew up on around here there really is no other option than cooking at home when we start to get a craving.
Tuesday night we had some Chicken Katsu with sticky white rice. In Hawaii you don't have to define rice but I have found over the years living on the mainland that most people think of that nasty minute rice that comes in a box. Ugh, call me a rice snob but yuck! Maybe it is a genetic thing but rice in my eyes is meant to be sticky and never should it have butter added to it. The thought makes me cringe.
This was the first time making it and I was a little nervous about getting the sauce right. G is probably the pickiest person on the planet and never really sugar coats his opinions on things so he is a good person to bounce things off and get a honest answer.
We got a thumbs up! He said it was very good and the sauce was right too.
