Wow how time flies

It's been about 10 months since I taught myself how to crochet.  If I can figure it out I think anyone can.  In the beginning I watched a lot of youtube videos and picked up "amigurumi world, seriously cute" because after all it was amigurumis that got me wanting to learn how to crochet.

This little cupcake is the first thing I ever crocheted myself from start to finish.  It is probably a little larger than a golf ball and there are oopsies all over the place but that is why I love it so much.  After I made a few of the smaller characters I ventured out to make my first larger scale piece.

Which is how this cactus was born.  As you can see my crocheting slowly got better and I was really enjoying the process.  This cactus was all done in one piece except the flower.  My next project was to master appendages which proved to be the hardest of them all.

To this day attaching arms, legs, ears, etc is the most difficult part of the process for me.  

So with a little time, yarn and a hook the possibilities are endless.  I would encourage anyone interested in learning crochet to go for it.  If I can do it, so can you.

Went to the Dr. again and they finally gave me a diagnosis, without going into detail there is nothing they can do for me and I just have to suffer.

I'll be going back to another Dr. for unrelated issues next week.  Co pays and prescriptions aren' t really how I want to spend my money.

Rachel, over at EugeniaWoods made a special request for a thick chunky scarf/cowl in mustard with a flower and this is what I came up with.  She was nice enough to model it for a photo and I think it looks great with the green shirt and her hair color.

13 years ago today my little chicken nugget was born.

Halloween is around the corner

Currently this is what my desk looks like.

Halloween is a big deal at work throughout the entire company.  There are contests for decorating, skits, costumes, baking, etc... Prizes too!!!!!!  Quite a few departments even have haunted houses and we are one of them.  Since they get very elaborate we have to start early to get things set up.  The weekend before Halloween the black visqueen goes up and blocks out the light and slowly things get creepier.  This year we have a old time carnival theme going and I am the first stop in the tour as the gypsy booth.  I still have more decorating to do but it is slowly getting there.

Do you know Becky, she's amazing so you should.  Right now she is offering up a Fall crafting class with her friends just in time for the holiday season.

It is almost noon and I am still in my pajamas.  I think it is going to be one of those days.  I've been pretty productive so I think I'm entitled to a little bit of laziness.  All my etsy orders are complete and should arrive in their new homes in the next couple days.  

We spent yesterday shopping for guitars and it was rather draining.  Who knew there were so many options out there and such a difference in price range as well.

We got some other shopping done as well.

JAWS bars!  Anyone who has been to Korean may know of these, probably my favorite snack as a kid. And even though my kid has never been there I have passed along my love for these.

Baby squirrel rescue

This baby squirrel fell out of a tree today at work, isn't he the cutest little thing?  I found someone who rescues rabbits and squirrels and she is taking him home.

an Apple a day

I was sitting in the parking lot at the middle school waiting to pick up the kid and was there long enough to make an apple cozy.  When I got home I realized I didn't have any apples but wanted to test out the size of the cozy I made so I picked up a tennis ball from the floor and it fit like a glove.

Did I mention that it was Miss Marley's tennis ball?  As soon as she saw me pick up the ball she came running to investigate.

She LOVES it!  Who would have thought?  I might crochet a couple more of these in some different colors to cover the rest of them up, all those old fuzzless balls are like brand new toys now.  (I did remove the button so she would not chew it off and eat it)

Late weekend post

This is my failed attempt at quilting a mug rug.  I have never actually made a quilt so I figured I would start off small with a festive Halloween mug rug.  It looks like this process is going to be a lot of trial and error.  The white strips were cut too short, they should have extended past the dark grey strips so I would have enough fabric to be able to bind the whole thing without covering up the pattern.  On the bright side I didn't spend all the time embroidering the ghost onto the black linen yet, it could have been much worse.  I guess it is back to the cutting board. 

All was not a loss this weekend.  Sunday was just perfect weather wise, not too hot and not too cold.  Perfect for yard work and BBQ.  Unfortunately, we forgot about the yard but the BBQ was unforgettable.  

How was everyone else's weekend?  Good I hope, I slacked off and have lots of blog reading to catch up on.  I'm too nosey to let it go.

Nothing brightens a mood like fabric shopping.

Halloween is obviously on the brain.

This one just took me by surprise.  I have no idea what in the world I would do with it but it was just too darn cute to pass up.

I don't even have words to describe how much a pain the ass this is.  I've been busy and preoccupied the past few days and have a lot of catching up to do.
