And the lucky winner is...

Skooks!

Never ending

I have decided to go through the thousands and thousands of photos living on my computer last night.  When I say thousands it is not an exaggeration there are at least over 9,000.  I stopped keeping count at some point, I am in serious need of some photo management and organization.

Life is green

With all this rain we have been getting lately mushrooms have been popping up everywhere.  I went out to take a couple photos and found an unexpected guest.

When my dad was here visiting from Hawaii earlier this year he bought me a very small meyer lemon tree. To be quite honest it doesn't even look like a tree more like a bush but he insured me it would grow and eventually produce lemons in 3 years.  I named her Bianca and have watched her carefully for the past 4 months grow slowly.

To my surprise she has already started producing lemons.  I should have named her fertile Myrtle instead.  There are 10 of these little babies growing bigger and bigger, I am so flipping excited!  I'm not sure how long they take to mature but I can't wait until they do.

The giveaway is down below

On the August 19th post, it ends on the 30th and I will pick a winner on the 31st.  Once the winner selects a prize and I get it made and mailed out who knows, I might have another giveaway of some sort.

Weekend re-do

I'm thinking my craft room is in need of something new.  Not sure of what I want to do exactly, it could just be a couple tweeks or maybe even a more drastic change.  I guess it all depends on what else comes up and how much modivation I can scrounge up.  Does anyone have any design ideas or craft room inspirations?

Hello Baby

Seems like everyone is either getting married or having babies lately.  Sometimes both.  It does make me wonder if there is another baby in my future, I haven't quite decided.  In the meantime I will just share in the joys of others.  I made this tiramisu blanket for a baby that is on the way very shortly.  I was worried I might not finish before he was born.  Since this was the first blanket I have ever made it was a learning process from start to finish.  I really liked how it turned out.  For those interested the free pattern is available here.

Today is not the day

I'm so out of it today, my sugars are way too high and I only have myself to blame.  My head is pounding, I'm beyond tired, and I just want to crawl into bed.

Remember all that yarn?  Well, this is what I'm making.  Bears...bears...and more bears... this little guy is the first one.  I bought 12 different colors so there will be at least 11 more.  I have no idea what I am going to do with so many bears but I need the practice.

I know it is only 6:30 but I'm going to pump myself full of insulin and lay down.  No more sugar and carbs I hate the way it makes me feel, it isn't worth it.

Lazy Sundays

I crawled out of bed and found this in the living room.

I woke up late today and missed my usual Sunday morning walk with some co-workers.  I don't have anywhere else I need to be today so I am trying to figure out what I am going to do.  The sky is still overcast and I have a feeling it may rain again.  I may try and work on something with all that yarn from yesterday since I didn't have a chance to last night.  I got caught up in making dinner and other household things and before I knew it bed time came.

Surprise, it's raining again

Thanks to typical Florida summer showers my outdoor project was interrupted half way through.  I'm sure I can find something to do inside as I have about a million and one projects to complete in here.  I just do not know where to start.  As always, everything should start off with a snack.

Rain, you can keep it coming I have plenty to keep me busy as you can see.  Stay tuned for an evening post to see what I am going to be working on.

I hate Wednesdays

But not as much as Thursdays, they seem to drag.  I even left work early today to take the kid to get his last minute shots for school.  Apparently the school will not allow them to enter class next week unless they have them and I didn't have a clue, awesome parent award.

Tonight I will be working on an embroidery piece of Totoro, probably my most favorite character in the entire world.  Here are some photos of some other Totoro items I have created or am in the process of making currently.

Wooden Coin bank that is currently in progress.  I'm not happy with the short stumpy arms so I will be getting around to fixing them, finish up the leaves, and then a coat of something to try and bring out the grain in the wood.

The simple things

I always feel like I am too busy for anything yet when I look back it doesn't seem like I did anything.  Where does all the time go?  Seems like life just likes to fly on by and you have to keep an eye out so you don't miss out on things.  I've been around 31 years and the kid is nearly 13.  If you would have asked me if this day would ever come when he was first born I would have said no, he's going to be a cute cubby baby forever...reality check 13 year old boy hormones.

Peaches, Slush Puppies, and Monkeys...oh my!

I made peach cobbler.  Doesn't seem like much but I have never made a cobbler before so I was pretty impressed with the deliciousness I managed to create.  Unfortunately in my excitement to shovel as much of it into my mouth I forgot to take a photo of the final product but believe me it looked good and it tasted even better.  I did mange to get a shot of the baking process, so this will be my proof.

I don't even know what to say about this one but I found a place near me that actually sells Slush Puppies.  Not too many people seem to know what they are but this one is for those lucky few that do.  The machine was old and looked like it was from the 80's and I even questioned if it could ever possibly pass a health inspection but I just couldn't resist.  Just the smell of it reminds me of my childhood, I use to get these all the time during the summers up in New York.  The things you do to feel young again... it couldn't be worse than botox in the face right?

I finally finished a monkey I have been working on for awhile (pattern is from crochet today magazine).  I caught him playing in a tree but made him come down because he will be going to his new home tomorrow.  Naughty monkey, you need a spanking... Oh my, get your minds out of the gutter!!!

Saturday's are for being embarrassed

What else would they be for?
Took MarMar into the groomers first thing this morning and about an hour after dropping her off I received a call that she was all ready to be picked up.  This should have been a big clue, it has always taken close to 2 hours every other time she's been to the "spa".  The lady that owns the shop greets me, cashes me out, and goes back to get my dog.  Moments later a familiar face pops out with so much joy and excitement you would think she hasn't seen me in weeks.  I notice she's still wet and mention it, I would think for $45 they could at least make sure she is completely dry.  So I wait as the owner heads to the back to find out what the deal is.  Moments later the groomer comes out and explains very nicely that my little MarMar is scared of the noise from the dryer, which I do not doubt since she is a bit of a wuss.  Apparently every time they turned on the dryer she started having diarrhea issues all over the table.  Ok then, I think she is dry enough. If that wasn't bad enough while I was walking her to the car she started pooping down the middle of the parking lot, not the wet stuff this time but embarrassing none the less.  At least she's clean now.

Later this afternoon I headed to super Target to pick up a couple items.  I was pleased as punch that I made it out of there spending less than $100, that place is a money pit.  Are you ready for embarrassing moment #2?
1.  Have you ever walked up to the wrong car in the parking lot?
2.  How about walked up to the wrong car in the parking lot and actually tried to open it?
3.  How about walked up to the wrong car in the parking lot, actually tried to open it while someone was     sitting inside the car?
That's classy stuff right there!

Eventually I manage to get myself into my very own car and think it should be smooth sailing the rest of the way home.  Boy was I mistaken... Sitting at a red light listening to a little XM radio (which has gone to shits since it merged with Sirius) and just as I start turning my head to the left AH CHOOOO!  And thanks to this cold/flu business I am trying to get over the gentleman in the car to my left looking at me was lucky enough to witness a snot bubble develop in my nose...bam! eye contact, ugh, green light.

Departing Florida...

Tell me woodland critters are not the cutest, I dare you!  I'm finally getting over this strep throat, cold/flu nonsense and feeling much better than I did 5 days ago.  Before becoming nearly incapacitated I put together this package for a woodland swap.  I picked up on my partners likes and came up with these owl stickers, a handmade owl box pouch, and of course I had to throw in a crochet mushie.  I'll be headed to the post office first thing tomorrow to mail it off, followed by a sincere apology for sending this out a week late.

I also finally finished this roly poly kitty ( the pattern can be found here ) which I started weeks and weeks ago.  One of my bad habits of starting things and not finishing them in a timely manner, call it craft ADD...ugh!  I have so many WIPs at the moment I really need to try and get them all completed sooner rather than later.  The only problem with completing projects is finding places for them because I feel guilty sticking them in boxes and tucking them away.

Vitamix... I love you

I've been watching quite a bit of documentaries about food, obesity in american, nutrition and our family is slowly trying to transition from being overfed lazy junk food and sugar fueled into something slightly healthier.  I wish I could say we are giving up all those things that are so deliciously bad for us but reality has a small hand in our success and failures.  So I am not going to set the bar too high that we clothes lines ourselves while we are trying to get by, I want to be able to jump over that bad boy and land on our feet.  I have the common list of excuses... time, money, work, household duties, it's raining... it's pouring... I'd rather be snoring.

Did I also mention I am recently diagnosed as diabetic?  Nice little wrench thrown into the gears of my adult life.  Stay away from sugar, stay away from carbs, shoot up with these needles, poke your finger and make yourself bleed multiple times a day... sounds delightful doesn't it?  I have wasted my luck becoming one of the minority of adults who become diagnosed with adult onset type 1 diabetes.  So lucky in fact I wasted every ounce of it and now winning the lottery is probably never going to happen for me.  So as a consolation prize for never being a lottery winner I got this handy dandy Vitamix and I LOVE it!  Smoothies here I come!

Do you know how healthy "green smoothies" are suppose to be for you?  Well if you don't go google it, that's what google was made for.  I know the color may turn you junk food junkies off but my god it just makes me feel good looking at it.  This here is a brilliant bright green breakfast smoothie I created.  Not that it required a culinary degree or anything, it is simplicity at its best.  Fresh! like the prince in fact.

1cup of fresh organic spinach
1 cup fresh organic kale
1 fresh kiwi (skin removed)
1/2 cup fresh pineapple
10 green grapes
1 cup of ice
1/2 cup of water

The beauty of the Vitamix has something to do with the amount of power the monster generates and something to do with breaking down the cell walls of the veggies blah..blah... who cares it is fanfreakingtastic!  I know, I know spinach, kale?  Oddly enough fresh spinach hardly has any flavor all you really taste is the fruit plus you're getting all those vitamins.
